A separate Coinbase Advanced referral pays the invited user by trading volume in the first 14 days: $5 for more than $100, $20 for more than $5,000 and $50 for more than $10,000. Only trades on Coinbase Advanced count, and this version is not available in the UK, Turkey, the Philippines or Canada.
The main point to watch is that the bigger Bitcoin reward you may see advertised, a random $10 to $2,000 in BTC for a first purchase of $50 or more, is a separate US-only offer for new users who did not sign up through a referral link. Coinbase says 99% of users who get it receive $10 to $100. Joining through a referral link rules you out of that offer, so US users should compare the two before signing up.
